Falcon Swimming And Diving Set For Weekend At Zippy Invite
December 03, 2015 | Women's Swimming & Diving
The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program will travel to Akron to participate in the Zippy Invitational this weekend. The meet begins on Friday (Dec. 5) and runs through Sunday evening (Dec. 7). The University of Akron will be hosting nine teams in this meet at the Ocasek Natatorium. The teams that will be participating in the meet are: Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Clarion, Bloomsburg, Niagara, Akron, Oakland, and WV Tech.
Â
In addition to the Zippy Invitational this weekend, three Falcons will travel to Federwal, Wash. for the USA Swimming LCM National Championships. Victoria Griffin, Franziksa Wohlert and Daniela Carrillo will compete in the meet, hoping to post times towards Olympic qualifying.
Â
Griffin helped the Bowling Green swimming and diving program to a second-place finish against the difficult field at the Pittsburgh Invitational. Despite a third-place finish in the 50 free, Griffin's swim in that event was still tied for the sixth-best in school history. Griffin is continuing her incredible junior year this season and it reflects in her performance in Pittsburgh. She now owns the 3rd best swim in school history in the 100 Free and the 200 Free. Griffin's winning time of 49.89 in the 100 Free was just .06 seconds off the school record. In her 200 Free victory, she was just .28 seconds off the school record. On top of her individual success, Griffin was part of four relays that finished in second place during the Pittsburgh Invitational, as well.
Â
In the meet against Pittsburgh, Wohlert was one of two Falcons to win multiple events. Wohlert placed first in the 800 Free Relay, the 200 IM, and the 400 IM. Wohlert has won multiple events in each of the Falcons' three meets this season.
Â
Senior Daniela Carrillo has gotten off to a great start this season, picking up another victory against Pittsburgh. Carrillo received another 1st place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:12.46. Her time in Pittsburgh is the 2nd best in school history.
Â
Following this weekend's events, the next meet for the Falcon swimming and diving team will take place on Jan. 22, 2016 at Miami University at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
