Softball Tabbed To Finish Sixth In MAC Preseason Poll

Cleveland, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team was chosen to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference East Division in the Softball preseason coaches poll, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league offices.
Defending MAC Champions Ohio University was tabbed to be the favorite in the East Division in 2015, receiving eight out of a possible 12 first place votes. Kent State was picked to finish second with two votes, and Akron and Buffalo each received one first place vote. The Zips and Bulls were chosen to finish third and fourth, respectively. Miami was picked to finish fifth in the East, followed by BGSU in sixth to round out the East.
In the West Division, Central Michigan was selected to finish first, with six first place votes. Ball State received five first place votes, selected to finish second in the division. Northern Illinois was tabbed to finish third, receiving one first place vote. Western Michigan, Toledo and Eastern Michigan were chosen to fourth through sixth, respectively.
In 2014, the Falcons finished 23-28-1 overall and with a conference record of 9-11.
With head coach Shannon Salsburg at the helm in her ninth year with the program, the Falcons head into the 2015 season with 14 out of their 24 athletes returning from last season. Freshman Briana Combs, junior Marisa Shook and senior Chloe Giordano were selected to serve at this season's captains.
The Falcons begin the 2015 season at the Cleveland State University Dome Tournament. First pitch for the Orange and Brown will be Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. against Niagra. BG's then takes on Bucknell at 8:30 p.m. that evening.
Bowling Green closes out the tournament with a second doubleheader in two days on Feb. 8. The Falcons take on Canisius at 3:30 p.m. and finish with Robert Morris at 6 p.m.
Cleveland State is one of five pre-conference tournaments that the Falcons will compete in this season. BGSU opens conference play March 28 against MAC foe Toledo and plays its first home game doubleheader at Meserve Field on Feb. 10 against Miami (OH) at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
