BGSU remains in Wisconsin to take on UW Saturday
Host Marquette University won the doubles point, and rode that momentum to a 7-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University tennis team on Friday (Feb. 6). The non-conference dual match was held at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
"I saw a lot of really good things from the girls today," said Falcon head coach Olga Elkin. "It's the best I've seen a few of them play. The competitiveness and hard work combined are now showing, which translates into having fun on the court."
The Golden Eagles (5-0) captured each of the doubles matches by 6-1 scores. Erin Gebes and Ana Pimienta got past sophomore Harley Hutchison and freshman Megan Miller at the top flight, while Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner downed sophomore Leeah Floyd and freshman Emily Witt in second-flight action.
At the third flight, MU's Vanessa Foltinger and Paula Tormos Sanchez topped sophomore Antonina Farrar and freshman Sydney Seeley.
In singles action, the Golden Eagles took each of the matches in straight sets. Miller battled Gebes through the first set of their second-flight match before falling by a 6-3 score, and Gebes went on to win the second set by a 6-2 result.
Hutchison represented the Falcons at the top singles flight, facing Pimienta. BGSU's remaining lineup, from flights three through six, included Witt, Floyd, Farrar and Seeley.
The Falcons remain in the state of Wisconsin, as BGSU takes on the University of Wisconsin on Saturday (Feb. 7). That match begins at 11:00 a.m. local time (12:00 p.m. Eastern Time). Then, the Brown and Orange will return to Northwest Ohio to prepare for next weekend's matches vs. Cleveland State (Feb. 13) and Cincinnati (Feb. 14) at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
