Falcon junior earns first weekly conference honor of the season
Bowling Green State University softball standout Braiden Dillow has been named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday morning (Feb. 10) by the conference office.
Dillow earns the award for the first time in her Falcon career.
Dillow, a native of Lucasville, Ohio (Valley H.S.), figured prominently in each of the Falcons' three wins, as BGSU went 3-1 at the Cleveland State University Dome Tournament over the weekend. Dillow went 2-0 with a save at the season-opening tournament.
The junior picked up the win in the season opener vs. Niagara on Saturday (Feb. 7), with six innings of one-run, five-hit ball. Dillow walked just one batter and struck out six vs. the Purple Eagles. In BG's second game, vs. Bucknell, Dillow entered the contest in the third inning, and allowed just an unearned run in five innings of relief.
Then, on Sunday (Feb. 8), Dillow allowed one run against Canisius as her teammates exploded for a 10-run first inning in a 16-1, five-inning win. And, in the Falcons' final game of the weekend, Dillow came on in relief with one out in the seventh inning and BG holding a 3-2 lead vs. Robert Morris. She proceeded to get the first batter she faced to hit a harmless fly ball to left field, then got a game-ending grounder to first to pick up the save.
On the weekend, Dillow had an earned-run average of 0.95 and allowed opponents to hit just .226 against her.
The Falcons now are preparing for the College of Charleston Tournament, which runs from Feb. 20-22 in Charleston, S.C. BGSU will face Appalachian State, Winthrop, Massachusetts and Pittsburgh, as well as the host school, at that tourney.
