Carey, Combs Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week
March 30, 2015 | Baseball, General, Softball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Zac Carey and softball player Briana Combs.

Male Athlete of the Week
Zac Carey, a freshman from London, Ohio, delivered a career-high 7.1 innings to get the Falcons in the win column and picked up his first career victory in an 8-2 defeat of Northern Illinois to close out the weekend series. He surrendered an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning and then proceeded to retire 19 straight batters before a one-out double in the seventh. Carey struck out just two batters but was efficient in retiring 22-of-26 batters faced on just 99 pitches.
Female Athlete of the Week
Briana Combs, a sophomore from Northville, Mich., pitched both games of a doubleheader sweep of Toledo, including a complete game shutout in game two. In the first contest, she earned the final two outs and got a game-ending strikeout in the 7-3 victory. Then in game two, she fired the first complete-game shutout of her career, scattering five hits and striking out five batters without a walk in the 4-0 win. She allowed just one runner past second base and that came on an error.
