Falcons End Day One in Ninth at The Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational

White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia – Bowling Green State University men's golf team posted team rounds of 294 and 292 to end day one of play at The Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational in ninth-place overall on Monday at the par 70, 7,287-yards Old White TPC golf course in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
The Falcons posted a first round 294, +14, on the morning session and then a second round 292, +12, in the afternoon to conclude day one in ninth-place overall with a two-round combined team score of 586, +26.
"Although we didn't have our 'A' game today, the event went great and things ran smoothly," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "We got off to a slow start to start the first round and just couldn't get things going our way. We will regroup tonight and come out and play tougher tomorrow."
Senior Joe Cooper led the Falcons on Monday, as the lefty carded rounds of 72, +2, and 71, +1, to finish the day with a 36-hole score of 143, +3. Cooper totaled three birdies and 27 pars over his first 36 holes of play to sit in a tie for 12th-place overall heading into the final round of play on Tuesday.
Behind Cooper were sophomores Jose Narro and Brett Rinker. Narro turned in back-to-back rounds of 73, +3, to finish in a tie for 26th-place overall with a two-round combined score of 146, +6, while Rinker posted rounds of 73, +3, and 74, +4, to find himself one stroke behind Narro and in a tie for 32nd-place overall with a combined score of 147, +7. Narro ended day one with two birdies and matched Cooper with 27 pars on the day. Rinker totaled three birdies and 25 pars on Monday.
Rounding out the lineup for BGSU was freshman Cameron Michalak, who carded a two-round combined score of 150, +10, and senior Ryan Triller with a 36-hole score of 157, +17. Michalak turned in rounds of 76, +6, and 74, +4, which included a team-high four birdies and 21 pars, to wrap up day one in a tie for 46th-place overall. Triller recorded 22 pars over rounds of 78, +8, and 79, +9, to place in 65th-place heading into the final day of play tomorrow.
Playing as individuals, Mitchell Kontak shot rounds of 82, +12, and 79, +9, to finish the day in a tie for 68th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 161, +21, while Holden Pahr finished in 71st-place with rounds of 82, +12, and 85, +15, for a combined score of 167, +27. Kontak shot two birdies and 17 pars, while Pahr matched Michalak with a team-high four birdies and added 13 pars over his first day of play.
No. 37 nationally ranked East Tennessee State University sits atop of the 13-team leaderboard with a combined score of 566, +6, while Eastern Kentucky is just one stroke behind the ETSU Bucs with a team score of 567, +7.
Marshall and Old Dominion are tied for third-place overall with identical team scores of 571, +11.
The final 18 holes of play is set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow morning, weather permitting.
