Lesley Irvine Named Director of Pomona-Pitzer Athletics
April 03, 2015 | General
"I am thankful for the leadership experiences that have helped to shape and prepare me here at Bowling Green State University," Irvine said. "I am proud of the relationships that I have built and the contributions I have been able to make on campus and in the community. I have many people to thank, including (Athletics Director) Chris Kingston for his belief and support, as well as (previous Athletics Director) Greg Christopher, who hired me from the coaching ranks to an administrative role in the department. The campus and community here in Bowling Green are very special and I will always look back on my time here with pride and gratitude."
Irvine was named the Associate Athletics Director of Sports Administration upon her hiring at Bowling Green in 2010 and served in that role before being promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration and Academics in Nov. of 2013. During her time at BGSU, Irvine has had sport supervision responsibilities for men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, baseball, softball, women's gymnastics, women's swimming and women's volleyball. Irvine also currently oversees the student-athlete welfare areas of sports medicine, sport performance, strength and conditioning and student-athlete academic services.
In addition, Irvine oversees strategic human resources initiatives in the department and serves as a key liaison for the Admissions Office and Dean of Students Office. Irvine is also Bowling Green's university deputy Title IX coordinator, monitoring and evaluating progress toward gender equity and minority opportunities plans.
"Lesley is one of the most impressive athletics administrators I have ever had the pleasure to work with," Kingston said. "This is a homerun hire for Pomona-Pitzer and a bona fide loss for BGSU. Lesley's leadership has been the catalyst for much of the academic and competitive success for Falcon Athletics. Her ability to develop and foster relationships with student-athletes, donors, and campus colleagues is unmatched. She is an extremely well respected, national leader in the enterprise of intercollegiate athletics. Pomona-Pitzer could not have made a better hire. Hats off to them for recognizing such talent."
Irvine will join Pomona College and Pitzer College on June 1 to oversee the 21 varsity teams in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) in NCAA Division III. The Department has 10 SCIAC Championships and 11 berths in NCAA Division III Tournaments.
Prior to her work at Bowling Green, Irvine was the head field hockey coach at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. She guided Stanford to three straight NorPac Tournament championships over her final three seasons, and her recruiting efforts paid dividends in the form of All-America talent. During her head coaching tenure at Stanford, Irvine mentored three Under-21 National Team participants, seven Regional All-Americans, seven NorPac Rookie of the Year honorees, 37 all-conference team choices, 23 all-conference tournament selections and 80 NFHCA Academic All-Americans. Stanford teams excelled in the classroom under Irvine's leadership, winning the 2003 NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award, placing second in 2004 and taking fifth in 2005.
