Scott Jess Earns Glenn Sharp Award As Equipment Manager Of The Year
June 04, 2015 | General
Bowling Green, Ohio – For 19 years Bowling Green State University baseball and hockey have experienced one of the best equipment managers in the country. Scott "Scooter" Jess has been presented with The Glenn Sharp Award, a national award presented by the Athletic Equipment Managers' Association (AEMA) for excellent work in the profession.
"Scott works tirelessly to serve our athletes and coaches every day and is a tremendous asset to our department and Bowling Green State University as a whole," Assistant AD for Equipment Operations Thomas Rapier said. "There is no one more deserving of this award than Scott Jess."
This award is named after former BGSU athletic equipment manager Glenn Sharp. Sharp served as athletic equipment manager for 24 years at BGSU and was inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982 for his dedication. In 1974 he and fellow equipment managers created the AEMA, and Sharp was awarded with the first Equipment Manager of the year award in 1978.
"Scott is a very loyal, hard and dedicated worker. He relates and brings a smile to everyone he comes in contact with," BGSU Head Baseball Coach Danny Schmitz said. "The passion that he has for the sports he oversees is truly remarkable and the chemistry he has with the student-athletes is a major reason why our teams have success."
"Anyone who knows Scooter understands the loyalty and passion he has for this program," BGSU Head Hockey Coach Chris Bergeron said. "His daily efforts make him a great choice for the Glenn Sharp Award. We are all very proud of him."
