Men’s Cross Country Holds First Alumni Golf Outing
July 14, 2015 | Men's Cross Country
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's cross country program held its first alumni golf outing Sunday at Forrest Creason Golf Course, on the campus of BGSU. The outing will become an annual event with the 2016 Alumni Golf Outing set for July 16.
A small, but illustrious, group returned to campus for the weekend's activities, including NCAA champions Dave Wottle and Sid Sink. Wottle was also the 1972 Olympic gold medalist in the 800.
"It was great to catch-up with such an accomplished group of former Bowling Green athletes," BGSU head coach Lou Snelling said. "The history of the men's program is so deep and impressive. I greatly appreciate the generosity of all involved and look forward to next year's event with the goal of continuing to grow the Mel Brodt/Sid Sink Scholarship fund."
Under Snelling and assistant coach Eric Thatcher, the BGSU men's cross country program is undergoing a transformation. The team had a perfect score in the most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) report. As well, the team earned All-Academic status from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and had four Academic All-MAC award winners and two Distinguished Scholar-Athletes. At the first Ziggy Awards in April, the team was honored for having the highest grade point average (3.51 cumulative GPA) among male sports.
