Bowling Green Women Win Faculty Athletic Representatives Award

Cleveland, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's athletics program has been named the winner of the 2014-15 Mid-American Conference Women's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Academic Achievement Award.Â
"I think we have such an incredible balance between academics – the primary mission here at Bowling Green State University – and athletics," Director of Athletics Chris Kingston said. "You can see that the women especially have done an incredible job by winning this award in five of the last seven years."
Bowling Green has won this award for the second consecutive year, three of the last four years and five of the last seven academic seasons. The FAR Awards are designed to recognize the conference institution with the overall highest grade point average (GPA) rank by gender.
"The academic tradition here is very high – in women's golf and the department," head women's golf coach Stephanie Young began. "There is a competitive aspect in the classroom because they are athletes, but all of our teams are working together to achieve a higher GPA and higher graduation rate."
The conference FAR's worked with the Athletic Academic Advisors to compute an award that best represents the academic achievement of students in a competitive setting. Using the same ranking method as the long-time Reese and Jacoby trophies (traditionally awarded to the best overall male and female athletic programs in the MAC), the FAR Awards are given to those institutions male and female programs with the highest overall GPA rank points within the conference. Only MAC sponsored sports are used.
Bowling Green had the highest GPA rank as the Falcons women carried the highest league GPA in women's basketball, women's cross country and volleyball during the 2014-15 academic year
