Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics D. Christopher Kingston has announced that Lauren Ashman has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator for BGSU.
"I would like to thank Chris Kingston, President Mary Ellen Mazey and the search committee for this tremendous opportunity," Ashman said. "I am thrilled to join the Bowling Green State University family. It will be a privilege to serve our student-athletes, coaching staffs and the University community. I look forward to contributing to the vision that Chris has for this department, both within the storied Mid-American Conference and nationally. This is truly a great time to be a Falcon."
Ashman will leave Ohio University, where she served for two years as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services. She oversaw all aspects of the compliance office and served as the sport administrator for the women's swimming and diving program.
At Bowling Green, Ashman will expand upon those responsibilities as the sport administrator for multiple teams. She will also oversee student-athlete welfare and sport performance units comprised of sport medicine and strength and conditioning. Part of her broad-based responsibilities will be serving as BGSU's Senior Administrator on the Joint Committee of the MAC.
Ashman will also be involved in the oversight of strategic human resources initiatives and will serve as a liaison for the admissions office and Dean of Students office. She will be the Title IX coordinator and monitor and evaluate progress towards the department's gender equity and minority opportunities plans. At the institutional level, she will act as a University Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
"Lauren is a great addition to the senior athletics administration at BGSU," Kingston said. "She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Falcon team. She is an extremely talented administrator with unlimited potential and is highly regarded in both the Mid-American Conference and the NCAA. Her desire to pursue excellence will be instrumental in achieving our goals for Falcon Athletics."
Prior to her time at Ohio, Ashman spent just over two years as the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance at Coastal Carolina University. Her most recent stint at Coastal Carolina marked the second time she had worked with the Chanticleers' Athletics Department. Her first stop went from June of 2004 through July of 2006 as a compliance intern before being elevated to the role of Assistant Compliance Coordinator.
Between those two opportunities, she spent four years working in the Hofstra Athletics Department, beginning as the institution's Assistant Director of Compliance before being promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance.
Currently, Ashman serves as a member of the National Association of Athletics Compliance (NAAC) and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA). Additionally, she is a 2010 graduate of the NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement. A Latrobe, Pa. native, Ashman earned her bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and is pursuing her master's degree from the same institution.
