One-day camp to be held Sept. 7 at Meserve Field
The Bowling Green State University softball program will hold a Labor Day Camp at Meserve Field. The one-day camp, which will take place on Monday, Sept. 7, is open to aspiring softball players ages 8-18.
SIGN UP FOR THE LABOR DAY CAMP TODAY!
The Labor Day Camp is an all-skills clinic that will help to improve a player's offensive and defensive skills. New BGSU head coach Sarah Willis, her staff, and members of the Falcon softball team will all be on hand to conduct all phases of the clinic. The camp will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Meserve Field. In the event of inclement weather, the camp will take place at Perry Field House.
There are several options available for the campers on Sept. 7. Both the Pitching Series and Catching Series will be held from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. Pitchers will be instructed on the proper fundamentals of the fastball, with emphasis placed on developing a pitcher's velocity, command, change of speed and pitch deception (movement). Various drills will be introduced to help enhance body awareness and skill development.
In the Catching Series, catchers will focus on the proper techniques of blocking, framing and throwing. Specific game-management strategies will be introduced, and the campers will develop a greater understanding of pitch-calling strategies.
The All Skills Series will run from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and will focus on players' fundamental development of offensive and defensive skills. Defensively, an emphasis will be placed on proper throwing mechanics, fielding and positional play. Offensively, the focus will be placed on the fundamental swing to enhance a hitter's power, balance and vision. Proper baserunning and sliding techniques will be introduced as well. The final 30 minutes will navigate the mental side of the game and provide guidance on collegiate-level preparation.
Cost of the camp is $60 for the Pitching Series or Catching Series, and $125 for the All Skills Series. Campers who participate in the Pitching and Catching Series will receive a $25 discount toward the All Skills Series.
Please wear softball attire to the camp on Sept. 7. All campers are required to provide their own equipment (batting helmet, cleats, glove, etc.), and are encouraged to mark all equipment with their name. Pitchers are responsible for providing their own catcher.
To sign up for the camp, click on the link near the top of this page. Once you have signed up, you will be contacted by the BGSU Softball Office as Labor Day draws closer. Forms of payment include cash or check (made out to BGSU Softball), and campers are asked to bring their payment to Meserve Field on the day of the camp. For more information, please contact the BGSU Softball office by phone (419-372-7159) or email (williss@bgsu.edu).
