BGSU alum is named league MVP after claiming Golden Boot & Scoring Champion titles
For the second-straight summer, former Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Anthony Grant had a dominant season in the Premier Development League. Grant, a member of the Seacoast United Phantoms, was named the PDL's Most Valuable Player for the 2015 season.
Grant claimed both the league's Golden Boot and Scoring Champion title in 2015, after a standout season in the PDL's Northeast Division. He finished the regular season with 12 goals and 28 points as he led the Phantoms to the playoffs. The standout forward has now scored 26 goals for the Phantoms in the past two seasons, having finished second in both the Golden Boot and Scoring Champion categories a year ago.
Grant scored 14 goals and 29 points in just 10 games in the 2014 season, earning all-league honors. He was named to the all-conference team again in '15, leading the Phantoms to a playoff berth for the second consecutive year.
The Phantoms, based in Portsmouth, N.H., went 9-3-2 in 2015 to finish second in the Northeast Division. Seacoast United has a record of 20-4-4 over the last two regular seasons, and the Phantoms won the division crown in '14..
Grant played in all 19 of BGSU's matches during his senior season (2013), making 15 starts. He finished second on the Falcons in goals, assists and points, with 11 total points on three goals and four helpers. Grant led the team with 66 total shots and 31 shots on goal, and tied for the BG lead with two game-winning goals. He was named to the All-MAC First Team and was a co-recipient of the MAC's Newcomer-of-the-Year Award in 2012, when he led the Falcons with eight goals and 20 points.
In his two years with the Falcons, Grant had 31 points in 39 matches, on 12 goals and seven assists. Seven of those 12 goals were game winners.
