Women’s Golf Concludes Day One at the Diane Thomason Invite

Iowa City, Iowa – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team carded team scores of 315 and 316 on Saturday at the Diane Thomason Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa at the par 72, 6,158 yards Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
With rounds of 315 and 316, BGSU ended day one of play with a 36-hole team score of 631, +55, and in 11th-place overall on the 12-team leaderboard.
"Our scores were consistent today both individually and collectively. We had several stretches where we played well and a few stretches that we will work hard to improve upon tomorrow, " head coach Stephanie Young stated. "We are looking forward to getting one more round at Finkbine, a course that challenges your game and demands good golf shots."
Three different golfers paced the Falcons on day one, as Erin Fahey, Lily Bartell and Mikayla Baer are all in a tie for 42nd-place overall with identical 36-hole scores of 158, +14.
Fahey was consistent over the first two rounds of play, posting back-to-back rounds of 79, +7. The freshman totaled 22 pars over her first 36 holes of play at the 54-hole event.
Bartell led BGSU with a first round 77, +5, in the morning session and then shot a second round 81, +9, in the afternoon. The senior led the Falcons with three birdies, all of which came in her first 18 holes of play, and also registered 21 pars for the day.
Baer turned in a Falcon low round 77, +5, over her second round of play after shooting a first round 81, +9. The junior matched Bartell with a team-high three birdies overall and carded 19 pars over her opening 36-holes of play at the tournament.
On the heels of the previously mentioned Falcons were both Fran Rodriguez and Hannah Lewis. Rodriguez carded rounds of 80, +8, and 79, +7, to finish day one in a tie for 46th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 159, +15, while Lewis posted rounds of 79, +7, and 82, +11, to end day with a two-round combined score of 161, +17, and in a tie for 57th overall.
Rodriguez tallied two birdies and 18 pars on the day, while Lewis had three birdies and 16 pars overall.
Iowa, the host institution, leads the tournament field with a combined two-round team score of 598, +22, with rounds of 298 and 300.
One stroke behind the Hawkeyes is Delaware with a 36-hole team score of 599, +23, while in third place is Harvard with a combined two-round score of 600, +24.
The final round of play is set for a shotgun start tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. CT.
