BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team lost to Green Bay, 77-61, Sunday (Nov. 20) evening at the Stroh Center in the Bill Frack Tournament. After leading by just one point at halftime, Green Bay shot 64 percent from the field in the second half to pull away with the victory.
The three-day tournament, which is being staged in remembrance of longtime men's basketball supporter Bill Frack, will conclude tomorrow evening.
William D. Frack, who passed away in 2014, was recognized at halftime, as members of the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation were on hand for the game. Through the foundation, Frack endowed approximately $20 million in April of 2014. The money went directly to the BGSU men's basketball program, as well as the foundation in order to fight homelessness and domestic violence.
Green Bay outscored the Falcons by a 51-36 margin in the second half, which allowed the Phoenix to turn a one-point halftime lead into a 16-point victory. Green Bay out-shot the Falcons across the board, and made 20-of-22 free throws, while Bowling Green shot 9-of-19 from the charity stripe.
The Falcons shot 37.7 percent (23-of-61) from the field and 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from three-point land, while Green Bay shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) and 31.8 percent (7-of-22), respectively.
After Green Bay went on a 16-0 run in the second half to take a 42-29 lead, Bowling Green fought back and countered with a 7-0 run, and eventually trailed by just one point at 44-43 with 11:21 to go in regulation. With under eight minutes to go, BGSU trailed by just six, but Green Bay closed the game by outscoring the Orange and Brown, 26-16.
Antwon Lillard led the Falcons in scoring with 15 points, and was an extremely efficient 7-of-9 from the floor. The sophomore also added six rebounds. Zack Denny, who recorded a double-double in last night's game, was 4-of-10 from the field and scored 12 points.
Demajeo Wiggins chipped in with 10 rebounds and six points. Wiggins is averaging a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game through BGSU's first four contests. Wes Alcegaire scored nine points, while dishing out two assists and recording six defensive rebounds.
Guards Ismail Ali and Rodrick Caldwell scored five points each, and combined for seven assists and just two turnovers. Dylan Frye and Rasheed Worrell each scored four points. Worrell also had four rebounds.
Bowling Green will conclude the Bill Frack Tournament tomorrow night against Murray State. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. Murray State defeated Green Bay on Friday (Nov. 19), before falling to UMKC tonight (Nov. 20). Green Bay will take on UMKC at 4 p.m. in the first leg of the evening doubleheader.Â
