February 15, 2016 | General, Men's Basketball, Gymnastics
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Spencer Parker and gymnast Alyssa Nocella.
Male Athlete of the Week
Spencer Parker, a senior from Detroit, Mich., became just the 43rd player in BGSU men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points, doing so with his first six points against Akron Feb. 9. He was the leading scorer for the Falcons in each game, posting 23 points against Akron and 16 against Western Michigan. Parker has now scored in double-figures 19 times this year and, on the week, he averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. He shot 54.5 percent from the floor and 73.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Female Athlete of the Week
Alyssa Nocella, a senior from Gilbertsville, Pa., led Bowling Green to its top score of 2016 Saturday as the Falcons recorded a 195.425, a mark good for 10th best in program history. She was the team's top scorer on two of the four individual events (vault and bars) and placed first in all-around competition with a season best 39.325.
