Checking in with Ryan James: Update #1
One week has come to an end here in Arizona. I am getting used to the schedule - waking up at 7 a.m. every morning to start my day. This past week was hard and challenging, mentally and physically, but it is exactly what I need to become a better soccer player.
On Saturday, we played our first pre-season game against FC Tucson and won 4-0. Although I did not get put into the game, I was able to get some extra work in after the game to maintain my fitness and to ultimately get better as if I did play in the game. Sometimes moments like not playing in a game can become discouraging, but I always remember what my dad tells me, "Know where you want to go and with respect and discipline, you will get there."
On a different note, we had our first day off on Sunday. It was a great day to bond with some of the team and to take time to relax poolside with great weather. Later in the day, near the hotel, I saw a boar (see photo at right). It was close enough to take a picture, but when the rest of its family started making their way towards me, of course I ran away. All in all, I'm having some great new experiences, but there's lots more hard work to be done.
