March 30, 2016 | Men's Golf
Bowling Green, Ohio – BGSU golfers Jose Narro, Pablo Heredia Iglesias and Brett Rinker are all set to take part in the 68th Azalea Invitational this week, March 31 through April 3, at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
One of the most prestigious amateur events in the country, the 2016 Azalea invitational will take place on the par-71, 6,776-yards golf course at the Country Club of Charleston.
"All three are playing well, but we have a lot of competitive golf left in a short time frame," commented BGSU men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell. "This is a great chance for them to play against top flight competition and help them get a chance to take part in a number of other elite amateur tournaments this upcoming summer. They all must really focus and use their mental games well this week."
Narro will be playing in the Azalea event for the second straight year. Last year, the BGSU junior finished in a tie for 25th-place overall with a combined 72-hole score of 284, even par. He carded rounds of 68, 68, 74 and 74, over the four days of play. Playing in the No. 1 spot all season long for the Falcons, Narro has posted a stroke average of 73.13 over a total of 23 rounds of golf this year for BGSU.
Heredia Iglesias will be making his debut at the Azalea Invitational this week and will look to turn in a strong showing in the prominent amateur event. Heredia Iglesias is third on the team with a stroke average of 74.26 on the year over 23 rounds of play and has matched Narro with a low round 66 on the season.
Rinker will also be playing for the first time at the Azalea Invitational this week. The junior leads the Falcons with a stroke average of 72.69 overall on the season having played a total of 23 rounds in eight events for BGSU. Rinker also leads the Falcons with a total of six top-25 place finishes on the year.
