Ninth Annual Doyt Perry Florida Classic Once Again A Success

Naples, Fla. – The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics recently concluded the ninth annual Doyt Perry Florida Classic. The event featured The Falcon Greats Reception, golf scramble and a 19th hole reception, sponsored by the Phi Delta Theta Alumni.
"The ninth annual Doyt Perry Florida Classic was a perfect Florida weekend to gather all of the Falcons in a beautiful gulf coast setting," Jane Myers, Assistant Athletics Director for Development, said. "For those who attended from near or far, the Falcon spirit was certainly evident! The warmth of the Naples weather and the warmth of the wonderful BGSU shared experiences permeated the event."
A Saturday night reception was alive with Falcon spirit as 125 Falcons came together to enjoy the beautiful gulf coast while socializing with coaches, teammates and friends. New Football Coach Mike Jinks headlined at the event along with featured speakers. Coach Jack and Jackie Harbaugh and spoke about "The Coaching Life".
The Naples Golf and Beach Club was host to the golf outing under the perfect sunshine state weather. Teams competed in scramble format for team prizes and individual awards. Adam Balls, Pat McGohan, Kevin Farrell and Jeff Parsons took home first place, where Blake Owen, Ed Owen, Jim Phipps and Chad Phipps came in second. Not to be forgotten, the team who had the most fun consisted of Gary Dewey, Bet Dewey, Roger Sterling and Vicki Sterling. Skill awards were also given out. Mike Hicks won men's longest putt, Bill Downing won drive closest to the line (men), Lana Chadwick won drive closest to the line (women) and Art Curtis won the Drawing award.
The Sunset Celebration of Life was a welcome gathering to all in the Falcon Family to remember former BGSU football coach, Bob Gibson, and his wife, Cynthia, who both passed away in March. The event was held in Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday, Feb. 21, and was hosted by the Gibson family.
