Charleston, S.C. – Bowling Green State University junior golfers Jose Narro and Brett Rinker each registered sub-par rounds of golf on day two of play at the prestigious Azalea Invitational held at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina on Friday, April 1.
Narro moved into a tie for sixth-place overall with his second round 68, -3 under par, on Friday. The BGSU junior, who shot a 69, -2 under par, yesterday in the first round, finished with four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey on the day. He will enter the weekend just three strokes off the tournament lead with his 36-hole score of 137, -5 under par.
"I played good today. I birdied every par-5 hole and only missed three greens," stated Narro. "Again, I putted well today and I stayed very patient throughout the round. I put myself in a good position going into the weekend."
Dropping a total of six strokes off his first round score of 73, +2, on Thursday, was Rinker with a second round score of 67, -4 under par, on Friday. With his round of 67, Rinker climbed up 25 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 16th-place with his 36-hole score of 140, -2 under par. Over his second set of 18 holes of play, Rinker posted four birdies and 14 pars overall.
"Everything worked well for me today. I drove the ball well and was able to make a few putts," commented Rinker. "I will have the same game plan tomorrow. Now that I know the course, I know where to miss it and when to play aggressive."
Teeing-off later in the day, Pablo Heredia Iglesias battled strong winds over his round of play, yet carded a round of 72, +1, to match his opening round score on Thursday. With his back-to-back rounds of 72, +1, the Falcon freshman sits in a tie for 40th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 144, +2. On Friday, Heredia Iglesias shot three birdies and 12 pars over his 18-hole round.
"I played good today. I started off bad by missing two putts over the first two holes," remarked Heredia Iglesias. "But, I'm proud of the way I fought because it was really windy this afternoon and things weren't going very good."
The third of four total rounds of play will begin at 7:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 2. Heredia Iglesias is set to tee-off at 11:10 a.m., while Rinker is scheduled to start at 12:50 p.m. Narro is slated to tee-off later in the day at 1:30 p.m.
