Minorik, Schrock Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
April 11, 2016 | Baseball, General, Softball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Riley Minorik and softball player Haley Schrock.
Male Athlete of the Week
Riley Minorik, a freshman from Akron, Ohio, was sensational at the plate this week for the Falcons. In BGSU's four games, Minorik went 5-for-13 with two home runs, two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. Minorik hit a home run in both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Miami. All but one of the freshman's hits on the week went for extra bases. Minorik racked up 13 total bases in 13 at-bats. In a pinch-hitting role at No. 17 Michigan on Wednesday, Minorik cracked a double off the wall in left field in a 1-for-2 effort. In Sunday's doubleheader, Minorik went a combined 4-for-10 with two home runs, two doubles, four RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Minorik hit a home run and drove in two runs in both ballgames.
Female Athlete of the Week
Haley Schrock, a junior from Goshen, Ind., led the Falcons with a .444 batting average, a .545 on-base percentage and a slugging pct. of .889 last week. Schrock was 4-for-9 at the plate with a double, a homer, two runs scored and two RBI. She reached base twice in five plate appearances in a midweek doubleheader at Miami, then was 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a homer and a slugging pct. of 1.400 in Friday's DH sweep of Central Michigan. Schrock had a walk and a single in the first game of the day, then gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer in the fourth inning of game two. After CMU tied the game at 1-1, she lined a ball high off the fence in left-center field for a run scoring double, and eventually came around to score as part of a four-run inning that gave the Falcons the lead for good.
