Falcons Challenge Michigan As Wolverines Hold On In Wednesday Midweek
April 22, 2026 | Baseball
Falcons’ Five-Run Fourth Leads Comeback Effort; Michigan Manages To Maintain Edge
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first at-bat of the game, Lance Vickers ripped a liner to third, caroming off the fielder's glove for an error and allowing Vickers to reach to start the game. Andrew DiLodovico was later hit by a pitch to put two on, but Michigan worked out of the frame.
- The first Bowling Green hit of the day came in the second inning with two outs. Carter Mottice lined a single up the middle into the outfield past the leaping Wolverine shortstop.
- Michigan tallied the first runs of the game with two in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead. The Wolverines added four in the third for a 6-0 advantage.
- The Falcons answered in the fourth. TJ Takats legged out an infield single before Zack Horky and Vinny Salvione both dropped singles into the outfield to load the bases. A sacrifice fly into center from Mottice brought home Takats for the first BGSU run of the day.
- Griffin Scheiderer loaded the bases again, being hit by a pitch, to set up another sacrifice fly, this time from Vickers, to score Horky. Sam Seidel immediately followed with a three-run line drive home run over the right field wall, pulling the Falcons within one, 6-5.
- Michigan added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 7-5 score.
- The BGSU answer came in the seventh inning. DiLodovico singled into right and took second on a wild pitch. Anthony Mitta joined him on the base paths with a walk before another wild pitch moved both runners up. Takats delivered a grounder up the middle, enough to score DiLodovico and narrow the gap to 7-6 with a Michigan pitching change following.
- The Wolverines responded with a run in both the seventh and eighth innings for a 9-6 score.
