Falcons Capture Doubles Point Against Buffalo

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team lost to the University of Buffalo, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Keefe Courts ending the regular-season for the Falcons. Senior Drew Fillis was honored prior to the match for her leadership and dedication to the tennis program over the last four years.

The Orange and Brown started strong by taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Ending the season with one conference loss is the tandem of Fillis and freshman Paula Comella, who defeated UB's Tanja Stojanovska and Dayana Agasieva, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. BGSU freshmen Polina Radeva and Marina Ferrero then captured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over the Bulls' Laura Holterbosch and Mercedes Losada Rubio.

The Falcons picked up the second point of the match with Comella at No. 1. Comella won in straight sets against Stojanovska of Buffalo, 6-3, 6-3. With the win, Comella ended her freshman campaign with a 23-9 overall record and a 6-2 record in conference play. Comella also earned two spots on the single-season records list with twenty-three singles wins (20th in school history) and forty-three combined wins (22nd in program history).

As mentioned, this weekend's matches conclude the regular season schedule for the Falcons. While BGSU concluded 2016 with just two wins, the Falcons improved upon a winless 2015 season. As well, the Falcons had just one senior on the roster.
