Falcons Conclude Play at The 68th Azalea Invitational

Charleston, S.C. – Competing as individuals at The 68th Azalea Invitational, a prestigious annual amateur men's golf event, a trio of Falcons in Jose Narro, Brett Rinker and Pablo Heredia Iglesias concluded the four-day and 72-hole event on Sunday at the Country Club of Charleston golf course in Charleston, South Carolina.
The three Falcons finished in 24th, 38th and 51st places overall over the four days of play.
Narro concluded the weekend in a tie for 24th-place overall, as he shot a final round 75, +4, on Sunday. With rounds of 69, 68, 74 and 75, from Thursday to Sunday, the junior turned in a 72-hole score of 286, +2 overall to pick up the top-25 place finish.Over the final round of play, Narro finished with one birdie, 12 pars and five bogeys. He finished the event with a total of 12 birdies and 48 pars overall. He also finished with a par-5 scoring average of 4.58 over his four rounds.
"I played good today, but the putts just didn't go in," Narro stated. "The course was setup a little tougher today and the wind was strong once again. Overall, it was an okay tournament for me. I need to get a couple things sharper before next week at the Ohio State Tournament."
Rinker finished just three strokes behind Narro with a 72-hole score of 289, +5, to place in a tie for 38th-place overall. The Pennsylvania native carded a final round 74, +3, on Sunday, which included one birdie, 13 pars and four bogeys. For the 72-hole event, Rinker turned in rounds of 73, 67, 75 and 74 over his four rounds of play. He totaled nine birdies and 50 pars on the week.
"Today I got off to a rough start and tried to grind hard on a course that was playing tough," commented Rinker.
After three straight rounds of 72, +1, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Heredia Iglesias finished his week of play with a final round 75, +3, on Sunday to turn in a 72-hole score of 291, +7. The freshman, who finished in a tie for 51st-place overall, has an up-and-down final round with three birdies, 10 pars, three bogeys and two double bogeys. Over his four rounds of golf, he recorded 12 birdies and 46 pars. He also registered a par-3 scoring average of 2.94 on the week.
"I was playing good and was -1 under with just four holes to play and I had missed four short putts," remarked Heredia Iglesias. "But golf hit me hard on the last four holes, as I went +5 over the last four holes of the round."
All three Falcons will return to action this weekend on April 9-10, as the trio will be in the BGSU lineup for the Robert Kepler Invitational hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The Falcons will then immediately travel to White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia for the third annual Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational on April 11-12.
