Celebrating 50 Years Of The DoytÂ
Bowling Green won their first MAC game of the 2002 season in record-breaking fashion when they lit up the Ohio Bobcats for a 72-21 victory. The 72 points are the most ever amassed by a team in Doyt Perry Stadium history.
Â
The Falcons followed back-to-back wins over Big XII teams by posting ten touchdowns, 692 yards of total offense and a then-school record 37 first downs. The throwing arm and feet of quarterback Josh Harris accounted for six of those scores, as he led the team into the end zone on 10 of the team's 14 possessions.
Â
BGSU actually fell behind 7-0 after Ohio's first drive. Harris threw for four touchdowns and ran for a nine-yard score en route to a 37-14 halftime lead. The Falcons had five more unanswered touchdowns in the second half to build a 72-14 lead before Ohio closed the scoring on their final drive.
Â
Harris passed and ran for 372 yards, as he went 19-for-24 through the air and carried the ball 15 times. Andy Sahm came in late to complete five of six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, and he also ran for a score. P.J. Pope ran 13 times for 117 yards and a touchdown, while B.J. Lane added 75 yards and a trip to the end zone. Robert Redd led the team with five receptions, three of which went for touchdowns.
Â
The defense also contributed to the victory. They permitted Ohio quarterbacks to complete just one of seven passes for 12 yards and gave up a total of only 205. They also forced two fumbles, both of which led to BGSU touchdowns.
Â
The win improved BGSU's record to 4-0, as the team started the 2002 season 8-0. They finished the 2002 season 6-0 at Doyt Perry Stadium.
