Conference office releases preseason coaches poll
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference race in 2016. The preseason poll, the result of voting by the conference's six head coaches, was released by the league office on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 23).

Akron, the defending regular-season and tournament champion, was picked to capture the 2016 MAC regular-season title. The Zips received five of the six first-place votes and 29 total points. UA also received all six votes to win the MAC Tournament.LINKS

Western Michigan and MAC men's soccer affiliate West Virginia were picked to finish second and third, respectively, with Buffalo tabbed for fourth and the Falcons fifth. The voting was tight from second through fifth, as WMU received 17 points, WVU 16, UB 15 and BGSU 11. The Broncos received one vote to win the regular-season crown.
Northern Illinois was predicted to finish sixth in the 2016 MAC race.
Head coach Eric Nichols and his staff return 15 letterwinners, including eight starters, from a year ago. The 2015 team finished with an overall record of 9-9-1, and the Falcons have won a total of 23 matches over the last two seasons, the program's finest two-year stretch since 1997 and '98.
The 2016 Falcons, after winning a pair of scrimmages, open the regular season with three-straight matches at home, including two this weekend. BGSU faces IUPUI on Friday night (Aug. 26), with first touch set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.
On Sunday (Aug. 28), the Brown and Orange will host Appalachian State at Cochrane. That match, the first half of a doubleheader, begins at 12:00 p.m.
