Flynn, a native of Naperville, Ill. (Central), picked up right where he left off a year ago, scoring a team-high six points as the Falcons opened the 2016 season with a pair of wins over the weekend. Flynn, the Falcons' leading scorer in each of his first two seasons with the team, picked up the primary assist on back-to-back BG goals during the first half of the season opener vs. IUPUI Friday night (Aug. 26), helping BG to a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-0 win. The two-assist game was the first of his career.
Â
Then, on Sunday (Aug. 28), Flynn scored a pair of goals in the Falcons' 3-1 victory over Appalachian State at Cochrane Stadium. His first goal, a blast from 20 yards out that beat the ASU 'keeper to the short side, tied the score midway through the first half. His second goal -- also a blast, from 10 yards away near the center of the penalty area -- capped the scoring midway through the second period, giving BG a two-goal margin. Sunday marked the seventh multi-goal match of Flynn's Falcon career.
Flynn, in just 38 career matches at BGSU, now has 25 goals and 60 points. He moved onto a pair of BGSU top-10 lists with his weekend performance. Flynn is tied with Dennis Mepham (1976-79) for ninth on the BGSU career goals list, and he moved past Mepham into sole possession of 10th place on the BGSU career points list.
Flynn and the Falcons conclude a season-opening three-match homestand this weekend, taking on Marshall on Friday night (Sept. 2) at Cochrane Stadium. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission to all Falcon regular-season home matches is free.
