Final Results
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program started their 2016-17 regular season on Friday, Sept. 30 at Cooper Pool, as they hosted the annual Tom Stubbs Relays meet. Your Bowling Green Falcons, Oakland, Youngstown, as well as fellow Mid-American Conference teams Toledo and Akron, participated at this year's competition in ten different events.
The first splash of the day was for the 200 yard medley relay, in which the University of Akron took home the win with a new meet record of 1:44.31. The Falcons were only .27 behind to secure a second place finish. By the end of the night, reigning Mid-American Conference champions, the Akron Zips recorded a total of three meet records, including the 200 medley relay, 3x100 backstroke at 2:45.44, and the 200 freestyle relay at 1:35.42.
Freshmen Step Up
It was the third event of the night, 3x100 yard butterfly, and the Bowling Green Falcons had an A team composed by all freshmen. Danica Garbett, Jessica Green, and Rachel Resch had no fear diving into their first regular season college meet together. The group of freshmen touched the wall in fourth place, stopping the clock at 2:58.42 behind both Oakland's A and B team, as well as the Akron Zips, who recorded a time of 2:52.38.
Griffin Sprints into the Season
Bowling Green State University Falcon, Victoria Griffin, has had an amazing college swimming career so far. The senior started her regular season the right way with the freestyle events she swam for the Falcons. The 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier had the fastest 50 freestyle split of the meet, with a 22.88 in the 200 yard medley relay event, in which the BGSU A team finished second with a 1:44.58. No swimmer at the meet was able to swim inside the 22 second window besides the BGSU Falcon.
Your Bowling Green State University Falcons will be back in action as they welcome former swimmers and divers for their annual Jean Campbell Alumni meet. The Falcons hope to see you back at Cooper pool tomorrow at 9:30 A.M.
