Nell, Tunstall Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
January 02, 2017 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Basketball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Chris Nell and women's basketball player Ashley Tunstall.
Male Athlete of the Week
Chris Nell, a junior from Green Bay, Wisc., set a school record with his eighth career shutout in a 3-0 hockey victory over RIT. In a game played at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Nell made 17 saves in 60 minutes as the Falcons started the second semester off on the right foot. Nell's eighth career shutout pushed him past Tyler Masters (1999-03) and Andrew Hammond (2010-13) for first place all-time at BGSU.
Female Athlete of the Week
Ashley Tunstall, a senior from Dayton, Ohio, averaged a team-leading 10.5 points to go with 7.0 rebounds per game in two Falcon games at the Stroh Center during the past week. In addition to her scoring, she also led the team by shooting 50 percent from the field. Tunstall scored a season-high 12 points against Malone and added a pair of steals. She then went 4-for-8 from the field against Ohio, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds, including five offensive boards, in a career-high 38 minutes.
