Volleyball Sweeps Akron to Remain Tied for First with One Match to Play

AKRON, Ohio – The Bowling Green volleyball program (16-10, 12-3 MAC) swept Akron (6-21, 2-13 MAC) Friday evening on the road to remain tied in first place of the Mid-American Conference with Miami with just one match to play in the regular season. The Falcons opened the match with a dominate 25-14 win, followed by a 25-21 victory. To seal the sweep, the Falcons were able to battle through 13 tie scores and eight lead changes to take the third set in extra points at 27-25.

- Senior Nicole Slimko led the Bowling Green squad with 16 kills while hitting a season-best percentage of .577. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native also marked two solo blocks, helping the Falcons gain an 8.0 to 2.0 edge in the blocking game against the Zips.
- With 17 digs on the night, junior libero Kallie Seimet surpassed 1,500 career digs, and now tallies 1,507 heading into the final match of the regular season. With her 1,507 career digs, Seimet ranks fifth overall in program history.
- Bowling Green opened the match with a team hitting percentage of .630, which is a new season-high in a single set for the Falcons. On the night, Bowling Green ultimately finished with a .429 team hitting percentage, which strongly eclipsed its previous season-high of .347.
- Also contributing to the Falcon offense was sophomore Jessi Holly, who earned 10 kills while hitting .308. Both earning eight kills while hitting over .400 were also freshman Katie Kidwell and junior Madeline Brandewie, helping the Falcons to its standout night of offense.
- On the night, sophomore Paulina Iacobelli and Brandewie each contributed two aces to the Falcons five against the Zips, while Holly also marked one at the line. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Brandewie also led the Bowling Green squad with three total blocks over the course of the three sets.
- Overall, Bowling Green held the edge in kills (51-43), hitting percentage (.429-.239), service aces (5-3), and total team blocks (8.0-2.0), while Akron marked a narrow edge in digs (37-36).
- The Falcons claimed the opening set outright, with zero lead changes or tie scores, although ultimately sacrificed a total of 17 ties and 10 lead changes to earn the sweep.

- The Bowling Green volleyball program will complete the regular season tomorrow night, as they face Buffalo on the road.
- With a Bowling Green win and a Miami loss tomorrow night, the Falcons would earn the MAC Regular Season Champion title. Bowling Green would share the Co-Champion title of the MAC regular season with Miami, if the RedHawks are to beat Akron.
