Volleyball Drops Narrow Five-Setter to Ohio

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green volleyball program (14-10, 10-3 MAC) fell in a hard-fought five set match to Ohio (14-13, 8-5 MAC) on Friday evening at the Stroh Center. In the 3-2 (17-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-15, 15-17) loss, a pair of Falcons earned double-doubles, while junior libero Kallie Seimet led the team with 34 digs.

- Junior libero Kallie Seimet earned her ninth 30+ dig match of the year when she got behind 34 on the night. Continuing to lead the nation in digs per set with a 6.87 average, Seimet now tallies 1,462 career digs entering the final home match of the season.
- Two Falcons earned double-doubles on the night, as sophomore setter Isabelle Marciniak notched 51 assists paired with 14 digs, while sophomore Jessi Holly earned 15 kills and 20 digs. A native of Lambertville, Mich., Marciniak's double-double was her team-leading 10th of the season, while it was Holly's third on the year.
- Holly's 15 kills and 20 digs were both career-high marks for the Upper Sandusky, Ohio native.
- Offensively, senior Nicole Slimko led the Bowling Green squad with 18 kills while hitting .154. A native of Crystal Lake, Ill., Slimko also stopped a pair of Ohio attacks with one solo block and one block assist.
- A strong defensive group, five different Falcons tallied double-digit digs, including Seimet (34), Holly (20), Victoria Iacobelli (19), Marciniak (14) and Paulina Iacobelli (11), which is the most for the Bowling Green squad this season.
- With 7.0 total blocks, junior Madeline Brandewie led the Falcons at the net, including one solo block and six block assists. It marks the second-most in a match this season for the Columbus, Ohio native, while Brandewie was also an offensive force by tallying nine kills while hitting .207.
- At the line, four different Falcons earned an ace, including Holly, Seimet, Brandewie and P. Iacobelli.
- Overall, Bowling Green held the advantage in kills (61-57), hitting percentage (.185-.146), and digs (109-95), while Ohio held the edge in service aces (6-4) and total team blocks (14.0-9.0).
- The pair of conference foes battled through a total of 26 tie scores and 10 lead changes through the five-set marathon.

- After the Bobcats claimed the first set by a score of 25-17, the Falcons rebounded to earn a second set win of 25-15 heading into the intermission. Bowling Green pushed Ohio to call a timeout as they gained a 16-13 lead with a big Brandewie block, one of her seven on the night.
- An eventful finish to the second set, the Falcons went on a seven-point run to earn the 25-15 win. Despite the span of the final score, the second set featured the most tie scores and lead changes in the match, with eight ties and four lead changes.
- A narrow third set with extensive rallies, another Brandewie kill put the Falcons up 13-11, which forced the Bobcats to call another early timeout. Ohio rebounded to tie the set at the 18 point marker, and ultimately took a 2-1 lead with a 25-20 win.
- As the Falcons led 14-9 in the must-win fourth set, sophomore Jessi Holly hit her third double-double of the season. After a killer fourth set performance by the Falcons, they forced a fifth set with another dominate 25-15 win over the Bobcats.
- The Falcons were able to go on another seven-point run to open the fifth set and gain a 7-1 lead as Ohio called its final timeout of the match. Ohio was able to inch back at the 8-4 marker and narrowed the Falcons lead to 12-10, before ultimately taking the game in extra points by a score of 17-15.

- The Bowling Green volleyball program will host Kent State tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 4, in its final home match of the 2017 season.
- The team will be honoring senior Nicole Slimko following the match for Senior Day. Head Coach Danijela Tomic and the Bowling Green volleyball staff will also be hosting Chalk Talk for all season ticket holders prior to the match at 4:15 p.m. in the Stroh Center classroom.
- Also movie night at the Stroh, Despicable Me 3 will be shown on the video board following the Senior Night recognition of Slimko.
