Falcons' Final Regular-Season Match Postponed
November 04, 2017 | Men's Soccer
BGSU and WMU will attempt to play on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Saturday's men's soccer match between Bowling Green State University and Western Michigan University has been postponed due to inclement weather. The teams will attempt to play the match on Sunday (Nov. 5) at 11:00 a.m.
With the Falcons and Broncos warming up on the field prior to Saturday's originally-scheduled match, a thunderstorm rolled into the Kalamazoo area and the teams were forced to leave the field. The thunder and lightning continued for the next several hours, with a few moments of hail as well, as the coaches and officials explored various options. The WMU Soccer Complex does not have lights, so as the inclement weather continued, it was growing less and less likely of playing a match there before darkness set in, and attempts to find an alternate site to play the match on Saturday proved unsuccessful.
The Broncos, ranked No. 5 in the nation, have clinched at least a tie for the Mid-American Conference regular-season championship. The Falcons currently hold down the fourth and final spot for the league tourney.
It is possible for the Falcons to clinch a MAC Tournament berth tonight, depending on other results around the conference. BGSU is two points ahead of West Virginia in the standings, and a WVU loss or tie at SIUE this evening would clinch a conference tourney spot for the Orange and Brown.
