Schilling, Hubert Named Jet's Pizza Athletes Of The Week
November 06, 2017 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Soccer
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player John Schilling and women's soccer player Erica Hubert.
Male Athlete of the Week
John Schilling, a junior from Oswego, Ill., scored both goals for the Falcons on Friday at Michigan Tech, helping Bowling Green earn its first win over Michigan Tech since Nov. 14, 2015. Schilling tied up the game for the Falcons on Friday evening at Michigan Tech before the first intermission by notching his first goal of the season 12:46 in. Nearing the end of the second period, Schilling put the Falcons up 2-1 with another power play goal with just 2:11 on the clock, which stood as the game-winner. The pair of power play goals marked Schilling's first career multi-goal game, and stood as his third multi-point performance of his career. The game-winning goal was also the second of the Oswego, Ill. native's time with the Bowling Green program.
Female Athlete of the Week
Erica Hubert, a redshirt junior from Welland, Ontario, scored twice last weekend as Bowling Green competed in the MAC Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals and championship game. In the semifinal against top seed Kent State, Hubert scored from the top of the box following a header pass from Jennifer Reyes. The score gave BGSU a 1-0 lead they would never give up in a 2-1 victory. In the championship, Hubert took a long ball from Maureen Kennedy and scored again from 15 yards out. Her goal came in the 79th minute and tied the match with Toledo at 1-1. The game ultimately went to overtime before the Falcons fell, 2-1. As a result of her efforts, Hubert was named a member of the 2017 MAC All-Tournament Team.
