Brown, Rodriguez Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
April 24, 2017 | Baseball, General, Women's Golf
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Kody Brown and women's golfer Fran Rodriguez.
Male Athlete of the Week
Kody Brown, a junior from Perrysburg, Ohio, had a career week for the Orange and Brown. The southpaw logged 6.2 innings across two separate appearances, and he allowed just two walks, and no other base runners. Brown hurled 2.0 perfect innings at Youngstown State on April 19, before throwing the best game of his collegiate career on Friday (April 21) versus Central Michigan. Brown pitched a career-best 4.2 innings, and struck out a career-high four batters, which doubled his previous career high.
Female Athlete of the Week
Fran Rodriguez, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, closed out competitive play with a low round of 81 in Sunday's action for a total score of 245, +29 at the 2017 MAC Championship. Rodriguez was named Sportswoman of the Year after being voted as such by players at the MAC Championship. The award recognizes the player whom other players most enjoy playing or conversing with, recognizes the good rapport with her own team, but also respects the competition and makes players feel comfortable to be around her. Additionally, the award is presented to Rodriguez as a player to be considered worthy of representing women's intercollegiate golf to others.
