Narro Named to All-MAC Second Team Honors at 2017 Championships

NASHPORT, Ohio – The Bowling Green men's golf program concluded the 2016-17 season with a 72-hole score of 1201, +49 performance to finish ninth at the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships. Despite many weather delays, the Falcons posted a final round of 299, +11 in Sunday's action with 194 par scores and 56 birdies throughout the tournament. The Falcons score in the 2017 MAC Championship improved over 2016's score of 1203 by two strokes.
"This finish is a disappointment to the accomplishments we have had this season as a team," Bowling Green men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell said. "It is also bittersweet to be graduating seniors Jose Narro and Brett Rinker as they were two of my first recruits to Bowling Green."
Senior Jose Narro closed out his collegiate career with an 11th place finish as he completed the 2017 MAC Championships with a 72-hole score of 293, +5 in addition to being named to All-MAC Second Team honors. The finish is his highest of the 2016-17 campaign, and was met by a team-leading 44 par scores as well as 12 birdies. A native of Tampico, Mexico, Narro posted three rounds of 73, in addition to carding a second round of 74 to reach his total score. On the season, Narro marked a low round of 68 in the third round of the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Nov. 2016, while he also earned All-MAC accolades for the second time in his career.
In his second MAC Championship appearance, sophomore Trey Walker finished in a tie for 14th overall by a 72-hole score of 298, +10. The Bowling Green, Ohio native closed out the tournament with a round of 74, after posting a season-low of 72 in yesterday's third round. Over the course of the three-days, Walker tallied 35 par scores as well as 14 birdies.
In the final day of action, sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias marked a round of 81, +9 to post a final score of 307, +19. The Sevilla, Spain native finished in a tie for 36th overall with 39 par scores and nine birdies in addition to averaging 4.69, -5 strokes on par 5 holes. On the season, Iglesias earned a team-low round of 67 in the opening 18-holes of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in Oct. 2016.
After earning an eagle in today's action, redshirt sophomore Max Rispler carded a final round of 76, +4 for a total three-day score of 309, +21. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native earned a low round of 75 in yesterday's action, and accrued a team-leading 15 birdies as well as 32 par scores. Rispler also led the Falcons in this weekend's tournament with a 4.56, -7 stroke average on par 5 scoring, in addition to finishing the season with a low round of 67 at the second round of the Border Olympics in March.
Senior Brett Rinker completed his collegiate career with a total score of 310, +22 at the 2017 MAC Championships after carding a final round of 76, +4 in today's competition. A native of Slippery Rock, Pa., Rinker earned an eagle in yesterday's third round, in addition to marking 44 par scores and six birdies. This season, Rinker marked a low round of 68 in the third round of the Lone Star Invitational in March.
Kent State claimed the 2017 MAC Championship team title by a total score of 1149, -3, while the Golden Flashes' Gisli Sveinbergsson earned the individual honors by a final score of 280, -8.
