A Well-Rounded Falcons Squad Earns 3-1 Victory over Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green volleyball program (6-8, 2-1 MAC) was able to earn a 3-1 victory over Kent State (2-12, 0-3 MAC) with a well-rounded team effort Friday evening. Two Falcons earned double-doubles on the night, while six players marked double-digit digs in the conference victory in which the team tallied a season-high of 16.0 total team blocks.

Falcon Stat Facts
- Sophomore setter Isabelle Marciniak marked her third consecutive double-double match when she tallied 35 assists and 18 digs on the night. A native of Lambertville, Mich., Marciniak's double-double is her team-leading sixth of the season.
- Junior Madeline Brandewie was able to notch her first double-double of the season when she secured the match point for the Falcons with her 10th kill of the night, in addition to tallying 10 digs.
- Leading the Falcons offensively was sophomore Celena Kanagin who hit .179 on her way to earning a team-high of 13 kills. Kanagin was also a presence at the net, jumping for six blocks over the course of the four sets.
- Bowling Green had six players earn double-digit digs on the night, the most of the season, including Kallie Seimet (26), Marciniak (18), Paulina Iacobelli (17), Brandewie (10), Holly (10), and Victoria Iacobelli (10).
- The Falcons also had four different players earn service aces, including two apiece from Marciniak, Brandewie, and freshman Kerstie Shaw. The Falcons earned seven on the night with one from Victoria Iacobelli as well.
- Defensively, junior libero Kallie Seimet earned a team-high of 26 digs, making it her 10th match of the season with 20+ digs.
- Freshman Katie Kidwell was a defensive force for the Falcons, earning a total of 11 blocks on the night, in one solo and 10 block assists. A native of Watseka, Ill., Kidwell also earned seven kills and three digs against the Golden Flashes.
- After opening the narrow first two sets with attack percentages of .113 and .089, the Bowling Green squad rebounded to hit a strong and consistent offense of .179 and .175 in the final two games to come out victorious.
- The Falcons did not suffer a single service ace to the Golden Flashes, a best on the season in serve reception.
- Bowling Green held the advantage in kills (50-44), hitting percentage (.133-.064), assists (46-40), digs (106-102), service aces (7-0) and total team blocks (16.0-11.0) on the night. The Falcons also only sacrificed five lead changes and 11 tie scores, over half of which came in the opening set.
Play-by-Play
- Although Kent State got off to an early lead in the opening set, the Falcons were able to right the ship and tie the game at 13-13 with a pair of back-to-back kills by Brandewie.
- Brandewie went on to increase the Falcons' lead in the first with her sixth ace of the season at a 19-16 mark. Kanagin then closed out the first set with a decisive kill at 25-20, making it her fourth of the night.
- The Golden Flashes got off to another hot start in the second set, but the Falcons were able to tie it up again at the 14 point marker after calling a timeout. Despite narrowing it to a one point lead at 20-19, Kent State inched ahead to claim the second set by a score of 25-21.
- Bowling Green came out of the gate strong in the third set, and climbed to an early 8-4 lead that forced Kent State to call a timeout. With its tenth team block of the night, the Falcons continued to roll ahead to a 17-9 lead. Bowling Green then went on to claim the third set outright with no lead changes by a dominate score of 25-16.
- By gaining a 6-2 lead early in the third, the Falcons continued to roll with the momentum as six players reached double-digit digs. The Falcons also went on to win the fourth set outright by a score of 25-13.

- The Falcons will continue Mid-American Conference play tomorrow evening, as they travel to Athens, Ohio to face the Ohio Bobcats. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
