Volleyball Drops Narrow Five-Setter to Sacramento State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Bowling Green volleyball program (2-4) opened the NKU Invitational with competition against Sacramento State (5-5). The Falcons dropped a narrow five-setter to the Hornets by a 3-2 (27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 8-15) score in their first of three matches in the tournament.

- Freshman Jacqueline Askin notched her third double-double of the season by marking 18 kills and 18 digs on the night. The 18 kills was a new season-high not just individually for the Louisville, Ky. native, but also a high for the Falcon squad on the season thus far.
- With 25 digs over the course of the five sets, junior Libero Kallie Seimet earned her fourth 20+ dig night on the season.
- The pair of non-conference rivals battled through an astounding 28 tie scores and 12 lead changes throughout the match, including a high of eight ties and four lead changes in the opening set that the Falcons won in extra point competition.
- Five Falcons tallied double-digit kills on the night including Askin (18), Celena Kanagin (11), Nicole Slimko (11), Katie Kidwell (10) and Madeline Brandewie (10).
- In addition to tallying a team-leading two aces on the night, sophomore Victoria Iacobelli also led the Bowling Green squad with an attack percentage of .667. Iacobelli is now one of three Falcons who have marked six aces on the year (Marciniak, Askin).
- Bowling Green went on an early streak to open the match, and gained a 6-0 lead. Although Sacramento State narrowed the score, the Falcons came out with an opening set victory in extra points by a score of 27-25.
- At the net, junior Madeline Brandewie held down the defense as she marked a team-leading nine block assists on the night, being a strong contributor to the Falcons 13.0 blocks against the Hornets.
- Sophomore setter Isabelle Marciniak was an all-around presence and tallied 16 digs, three block assists and two kills in addition to a season-high 54 assists.

- Tomorrow the Falcons will face Seattle University in a 10 a.m. first serve, prior to taking on host-school Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. The evening match against the Norse will round out tournament competition for the Falcons on the weekend.
