Maciejewski, Madry Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
October 15, 2018 | General, Men's Soccer, Women's Golf
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are soccer player Charlie Maciejewski and women's golfer Jessica Madry.
Male Athlete of the Week
Charlie Maciejewski, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, scored a pair of golden goals as the Falcons went 2-0-0 last week. On Tuesday (Oct. 9), Maciejewski scored the winner with just 3.5 seconds left in the first scheduled overtime period, giving the Falcons a 3-2 victory at IUPUI. Then, on Saturday (Oct. 13), 'Charlie Magic' scored in OT once again, this time in the 97th minute, to give BG a win in a conference match at Northern Illinois. Maciejewski now has three career goals. One came with under two minutes left in regulation and tied the match, and the other two (last week's two goals) both came in OT.
Female Athlete of the Week
Jessica Madry, a junior from Houston, Texas, shot a 141 to break the 36-hole school record on her way to a three-stroke victory at the 2018 Shirley Spork Invitational (Oct. 8-9). Madry opened the tournament with a career-low 71, and then the following day, topped that career low by carding a final-round 70. Of the 62 golfers at the event, Madry was the only one to shoot below par, let alone three-under par. The junior led the entire field in birdies (8) and par-three scoring (2.63), as she became the 18th player in school history to earn an individual title. Bowling Green posted a school-record 592 to win the tournament, which included four other MAC schools, by 23 strokes.
