TUESDAY MORNING: Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week
The MAC P-O-W honor is the third in two days for Maciejewski. On Monday, he was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week, and earlier Tuesday morning, he earned honorable mention on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Maciejewski, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (Summit Country Day), scored a pair of Golden Goals as the Falcons went 2-0-0 last week. Last Tuesday (Oct. 9), Maciejewski scored the winner with just 3.5 seconds left in the first scheduled overtime period, giving the Falcons a 3-2 victory at IUPUI.
In that match, BG won a throw-in with under 20 seconds to go, and the ball was quickly passed to Maciejewski. Near the end line, he made a spin move to get around his defender, took the ball into the box from the right side and blasted a shot into the roof of the net from approximately 10 yards out.
Then, on Saturday (Oct. 13), 'Charlie Magic' scored in OT once again, this time in the 97th minute, to give BG a win in a conference match at Northern Illinois. After a foul on the Huskies, a long free kick was played forward, and BG's Tate Robertson got a touch on the ball near the 18-yard line, flicking it on a diagonal path toward the center of the box. Maciejewski raced into the area, leaned down and headed the ball past the NIU 'keeper to give the Falcons the win.
Maciejewski now has three career goals. One came with under two minutes left in regulation and tied the match, and the other two (last week's two goals) both came in OT.
Bowling Green is 4-5-3 overall, and the Falcons are tied for second in the Mid-American Conference with a 1-0-1 league record. BGSU is unbeaten (3-0-1) in the last four matches.
Maciejewski shares this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor with West Virginia's Joey Piatczyc, who scored two goals as the Mountaineers split a pair of games last week. Piatczyc had three shot attempts in WVU's 3-0 loss to Wright State, before scoring both Mountaineer goals in a 2-1 overtime win at Akron.
Maciejewski and the Falcons are home on Saturday evening (Oct. 20), taking on Western Michigan in a 7:00 p.m. start at Cochrane Stadium. Admission to all BGSU regular-season home soccer matches is free.
