November 15, 2018 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team and head coach Michael Huger announced the signing of two future student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Thursday, Nov. 15. Chandler Turner (Detroit, Michigan / Renaissance) and Davin Zeigler (Cleveland, Ohio / Benedictine) will join the program as freshmen for the 2019-20 season.
Turner comes to Bowling Green out of Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan, which is the same high school that current Falcon Justin Turner attended. The 2018-19 season will be Turner's fourth year on varsity, playing for coaches Vito Jordan and John White.
Over his three years at Renaissance, Turner has led the Phoenix to a 36-24 record, including two trips to the State District Championship Game. A three-year captain, Turner has seen his scoring, rebounding and assists averages go up every season. Last season, he averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists on his way to earning All-City honors for the second-straight year.
Turner, while playing in the highly talented Detroit Public School League, averaged 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a sophomore. Across his freshman season, Turner averaged 12.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Turner had several other Division I offers, including Buffalo, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Milwaukee, IUPUI, and Cleveland State.
COACH HUGER ON CHANDLER TURNER
"We'd like to welcome Chandler Turner to the Falcon Basketball family. Chandler is a 6-7 wing that has multiple skill sets. He plays at a very steady pace, can handle the ball, create scoring opportunities for himself and others, and also rebound at a high clip. At his size, Chandler has the potential to develop into a mismatch problem for our opponents. A high-character and smart young man, Chandler was a guy we targeted for the past few years. He will bring a high basketball IQ with him to Bowling Green."
A 6-2 guard out of Benedictine High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Zeigler heads into his senior year in 2018-19 after being named Preseason First Team All-Ohio by Prep Hoops. A four-year varsity player for coach Rob Stircula, Zeigler has led the Bengals to a pair of conference championships.
Benedictine has accumulated a record of 59-16 under the leadership of Zeigler – a multiple-year captain for the Bengals. As a junior, Zeigler averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists on his way to earning All-State Honorable Mention Honors. Zeigler was also named First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-District.
As a sophomore, Zeigler averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists, picking up All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. An honor roll student at Benedictine, Zeigler held offers from a number of Division I institutions, including Wright State, Youngstown State, Cleveland State and UC Riverside.
COACH HUGER ON DAVIN ZEIGLER
"We a thrilled to add Davin Zeigler to our family. Davin comes from a long line of Zeigler basketball players. He eats, sleeps and breathes basketball, and will bring a ton of passion to our program. A dynamic point guard, Davin is an elite athlete with tremendous upside. He has an unbelievable ability to get into the paint and create scoring opportunities. The most impressive part of Davin's game is his relentless defense and competiveness. He will provide an immediate spark at the guard position."
