Ackon earns College Soccer News accolades for the first time in his Falcon career.
Ackon, a native of Cape Coast, Ghana (Mfantsipim School), was stellar at both ends of the field in the Falcons' dominant 2-0 win over SIUE on Saturday night (Nov. 3). With the victory, BGSU secured the second seed for the Mid-American Conference Tournament. After a 1-5-2 start to the season, BGSU is 5-1-2 in the last eight matches.
On Senior Night, Ackon was part of a BG back line that limited the Cougars (9-3-4 overall entering the match) to just one shot on goal all night. Ackon, who played all 90 minutes, scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a header with just 13 seconds remaining in the half, giving BG a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Falcons finished MAC play with a 2-1-2 record, and earned a first-round bye for the league tourney. BGSU, 6-6-4 overall, will face either Western Michigan or Northern Illinois in Friday's (Nov. 9) semifinal round. The Falcons' Friday match will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, W. Va.
