Cecil Named MAC Player of the Week
December 26, 2018 | Women's Basketball
Junior averaged 25 points & 8.5 boards in two BG wins last week
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Andrea Cecil has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday morning (Dec. 26). Cecil, a junior, earns the honor for the first time this season and the second time in her BGSU career.
Cecil, a native of Oak Harbor, Ohio (Oak Harbor H.S.), averaged 25.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as the Falcons went 2-0 last week. Cecil shot 53.3 percent from the floor and was 8-for-16 from three-point range in the two wins. She also went 10-of-11 (90.9%) from the free-throw line.
Cecil exploded for 30 points and 11 rebounds in the Falcons' 79-73 win over Detroit Mercy on Monday, Dec. 17. The point total was a career best, and the rebound total tied her career standard. She knocked down four three-point tries to tie her career high in that category. Cecil scored 11 points in the second quarter, then exploded for 14 in the third period vs. the Titans.
Then, the junior tied for game honors with 20 points in the Falcons' 79-72 road win over Valparaiso on Friday evening (Dec. 21). Cecil again hit four three-pointers, and she added six rebounds in the victory.
On the season, Cecil is averaging 16.1 points per game and is shooting 51.0% from both the floor and the arc. She has scored at least 19 points in six of BG's 10 games this season, and she is ranked eighth in the entire nation in three-point field-goal percentage.
Cecil earned the league Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division. Central Michigan's Reyna Frost was named the MAC's West Division P-O-W.
Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons (6-4) will wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule on Sunday (Dec. 30), facing Davis & Elkins at the Stroh Center. That game, the second half of a BGSU hoops doubleheader, is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. Then, BGSU will begin the Mid-American Conference slate on Saturday, Jan.5, when Western Michigan comes to the Stroh.
