Kruse, Giammarino Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week
March 05, 2018 | General, Ice Hockey, Softball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Brandon Kruse and softball player Hannah Giammarino.
Male Athlete of the Week
Brandon Kruse, a freshman from Saline, Mich., led BGSU hockey Friday night when he tallied both goals for the Orange and Brown in a 2-1 overtime victory that set the tone for the team's sweep of Ferris State. He scored a goal in his first career playoff game and ultimately earned his first multi-goal game of his career. After marking his third game-winning goal of the season, Kruse extended his point streak to a career-best five games, and has now earned points in 10 of the last 12 games. In addition to his two goals for two points, Kruse notched seven shots on goal and a plus-3 on the weekend in the sweep of Ferris State.
Female Athlete of the Week
Hannah Giammarino, a junior from Amanda, Ohio, hit .375 with a slugging pct. of 1.000 in BGSU's five games at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, hosted by Texas Tech, over the weekend. Giammarino, who had played in a reserve role in five of the Falcons' first 10 games of the season, played in all five games last weekend, starting three. She pinch-hit in both of Friday's games, walking and scoring a run vs. UTSA, then going 1-for-1 against Texas Tech. The next day, Giammarino earned her first start of the year and went 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer and two RBI as BG defeated New Mexico. She also scored what proved to be the winning run in Sunday's 3-1 win over UTSA.
