Men's Cross Country To Compete At John McNichols Invitational
September 12, 2018 | Men's Cross Country
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After finding success at home, the men's cross country team hits the road again this weekend, heading to Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. The race is set to start at 9am on Saturday (Sept. 15). The Falcons last traveled to Indiana State in 2016 for the Indiana State Pre-Nationals, an event that had 41 participating teams.
A Look At The Competition
The hosting Sycamores will be participating in their second event of the year. They previously made their way to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Opener where their men's team placed second. They were led by senior Akis Medrano who finished third in the 8k race with a time of 25:34.3. In addition, there are currently ten more teams registered for the event, including Butler and Cincinnati.
Against The Sycamores
BGSU last competed against Indiana State at last year's NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The Sycamores 18th place finish squeaked by the Falcons who finished the event in 19th. The two teams met two other times last year going back-and-forth in the competitions. Indiana State placed higher at the Joe Piane, while Bowling Green had the better finish at the Pre-Nationals Invitational.
Quotes of the Coach
This race is yet another test run for the Falcons and Assistant Coach Juan Carrillo. "The expectation for this weekend at Indiana State will be to preview the course which is where our NCAA Regional Championship is going to be," said Carrillo. "We want to go there and work on closing the gaps between our number 3-7 guys." Carrillo went on to emphasize the racing aspect needs to be a focal point this week instead of individual times. He closed by saying "This will be our first 8k race of the season and I'm excited to see how we do, especially how our freshman do in their first 8k race ever."
Starting Strong
The BGSU men's team will look to continue building upon their success this season. Senior Noah Schaub has been at the forefront of the team, finishing in the top two of both of the Falcons' races this year. However, he isn't the only one finding success. BGSU was able to claim seven of the top ten spots in their previous race at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener.
