Saturday Success for Falcons at BGSU Invitational

BGSU competitors capture both doubles crowns, assure themselves of two singles titles as well
The Bowling Green State University tennis team captured a pair of doubles titles, and the Falcons assured themselves of two singles crowns as well, as day-two action concluded at the BGSU Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 15) at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus.
The two-day (sort of), five-team tournament is the first of three fall invitationals for the Falcons. BGSUÂ was joined by Ashland, Detroit Mercy, Tiffin and Toledo in this weekend's tourney.

DAY-TWO NOTES
• BGSU competitors, after going a combined 11-2 on day one of the invite, were a combined 12-5 on the second day. BGSU doubles teams went 6-2 on Saturday, with the only two losses coming to other Falcon teams.
• Singles play saw four Falcons advanced to the finals in the top-two flights. Due to the heat and humidity, the championship matches in each of those flights will be played on Monday.
• In doubles, BGSU teams picked up titles at each of the two flights, defeating other BG duos in both cases..

SINGLES
• In the Orange Bracket, seniors Polina Radeva and Paula Comella each won their semifinal matches on Saturday to set up a championship meeting on Monday. Radeva downed a Tiffin opponent, while Comella defeated a Toledo foe in straight sets.
• BGSU competitors went a perfect 3-0 vs. the Rockets in semifinal-round action on Saturday.
• The Brown Bracket saw juniors Ayumi Sasaki and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash each vanquish a Rocket foe on Saturday to set up another All-BGSU meeting in a championship match on Monday.
• Junior Vanesa Pardo went 2-1 in the back draw of the Brown Bracket on Saturday, winning two matches by a combined 16-3, before dropping a narrow 7-5 result in the back-draw final.
• In the White Bracket, freshman Laura Silveira and sophomore Marta Bettinelli each suffered a Saturday setback.
DOUBLES
• BGSU's doubles dominance, established on Friday, continued on Saturday.
• Comella and Tavpash teamed up to down a Toledo team by a 6-3 score in the Freddie Falcon Bracket, while Radeva and Silveira also defused a Rocket team, 6-4. In the All-Falcon final, the Comella/Tavpash team emerged victorious.
• In the Frieda Falcon Bracket, the Sasaki/Pardo team picked up a win over a Detroit Mercy tandem to reach the finals. Bettinelli teamed up with Toledo freshman Christina Fuller for the second-straight day, and that team beat two of Fuller's Rocket teammates before topping Sasaki and Pardo, 6-4, in the final.
UP NEXT
• The two remaining singles bracket championship matches will be held in practice on Monday.
• Next weekend, the Falcons take a break from competition, but the team will be hosting the Falcon Pro-Am on Saturday, Sept. 22.
• Then, the team's next action will be the Detroit Invitational in the Motor City on Sept. 28-29.
