BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Athletics and Stone Ridge Golf Club have partnered to begin construction on a brand new short-game practice area for the BGSU men's and women's golf programs. The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2019.
The practice area will also be made available for Stone Ridge members, but priority access will be given to the Bowling Green golf teams during the school year. The area will also be used for summer junior clinics and golf camps.
"BGSU Athletics is pleased to partner with Stone Ridge Golf Club. A special thank you to Paul Thayer and Joe Ghesquiere for their willingness to partner with BGSU," said BGSU Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger. "The course is a tremendous asset for our men's and women's golf programs. The new short game area will serve as a recruiting tool but will also give our student-athletes a practice facility to hone their games. The initiative compliments our priority to foster the University and Community relationship."
The area will consist of a 5,400 square foot two-tiered green, large practice bunker, fairway approach, and a 1,500 square foot tee. The designed layout can be seen below.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING…
"We are so pleased to partner with the BGSU Men's and Women's Golf Teams on this worthwhile project. It not only strengthens the bond that we have with both teams, but it also provides an exciting new amenity that we can share with our Members. Our enhanced practice facility will certainly be a draw for collegiate recruits and Club Membership prospects alike!" –Joe Ghesquiere, Stone Ridge Golf Club General Manager
"This is such an exciting project for our program to be involved in. We are very fortunate to have support from the Stone Ridge ownership as well as its members. Combined with the ongoing indoor enhancements, this will align our facilities with other top schools in the MAC." – John Powers, BGSU Head Men's Golf Coach
"We are thrilled to partner with Stone Ridge Golf Club to develop a practice area in order to provide our golf programs with a place to practice and improve their short game. It will have an immediate impact on our student-athletes and allow them to work on all aspects of their short game in one area. This opportunity would not be possible without Stone Ridge and the generosity of our men's and women's golf alumni and friends who are committed to the success of our current and future student-athletes. We cannot thank them enough for the continued support." – Stephanie Young, BGSU Head Women's Golf Coach
