Bowling Green, Ohio – Legendary television anchorman Jerry Anderson, who retired in June after nearly 40 years as a local television newsman, has been named the public address announcer for Bowling Green men's and women's basketball for the 2018-19 season. "I'm very excited to be part of the BGSU basketball scene," Anderson said. "I've been a Falcon fan since childhood. I believe both hoop programs are heading in exciting directions and I hope to do my small part to enhance the excitement over the public address system at The Stroh. And, hey, I don't have to wear makeup!"
Born in Bowling Green and a graduate of both Bowling Green High School, Anderson attended BGSU before he began his career in the local media in radio at WFOB-AM in Bowling Green in 1974. He moved to WSPD-AM in 1978 and was hired by WTVG-TV in 1980.
In just two years, Anderson was promoted to lead anchor until returning to WSPD in 1993, hosting an AM morning radio talk show. He moved to WTOL in 1994, where he remained until retirement.
"We are excited to welcome Jerry Anderson to the BGSU basketball family," BGSU Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger said. "Jerry is a tremendous fan of BGSU Athletics and his long, distinguished career in the local media makes him a perfect fit for this position."
Dave Rice, who previously served as public address announcer for BGSU basketball, will remain in his role as the lead public announcer for home football, soccer, gymnastics and swim/dive contests, among other games.
