Vie Named MAC Male Scholar-Athlete Of The Week
October 16, 2019 | Men's Golf
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Bowling Green State University men's golfer Rodrigue Vie has been named the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of October 7-11.
Vie finished first among all 78 golfers at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, posting a score of -8 (67-69-69). The individual win is the first of its kind since 2015 for the program. Vie's score was just three strokes behind the program record at 202, which was set by Jose Narro in 2015. The finish for Vie continues his excellent start to the season. Vie finished T-4th at the Raising Canes Invitational and was T-6th at the Firestone Invitational.Â
Vie also helped the team win the tournament overall, finishing in first place with a score of -15 (837). The score was just five strokes behind the all-time program record of 832, which was set in 2010. The win was BGSU's first since the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by West Virginia University, on October 10, 2017. The win was the first tournament win under head coach John Powers.
The junior carries a 3.803 GPA with a major in finance. Vie finished inside the top ten in three of BG's four events this spring, helping the Falcons to a team win and co-runner up finish. This nomination is on the heels of Vie also being named MAC Golfer of the Week, as well as Jets Athlete of the Week for his performances.Â
The MAC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week Award is presented to one male and one female athlete each week. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and have performed well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by a member of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
BG has just concluded its fall season as the Falcons will pick up again in February where they will take part in seven different tournaments in 2020.
