Demajeo Wiggins, a standout player for the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team from 2015-18, was selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA G-League Draft. Wiggins was selected by the Greensboro Swarm with the No. 14 overall pick. The four-round, 112-pick draft took place on Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon.
Â
No player in the history of the program appeared in more games than Wiggins, who broke the school record for games played in a career with 129.
Â
Wiggins is one of just three players in school history – along with Nate Thurmond (1961-63) and Cornelius Cash (1973-75) – to post 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. The Toledo native finished his career with 1,316 points (20th all-time) and 1,066 rebounds (3rd all-time).
Â
A two-time All-MAC forward, Wiggins registered 362 rebounds in 2018-19. That figure ranks fifth all-time in BGSU men's basketball history, and marked the most rebounds from a Falcon since the 1972-73 season.
Â
A key cog on last season's 22-win team that reached the MAC Championship Game for just the fourth time in school history, Wiggins averaged a double-double in each of his last two seasons in the Orange and Brown. He averaged 12.5 points and 10.6 rebounds as a senior. Across his junior campaign, Wiggins averaged 13.7 points and 10.1 rebounds.
Â
WHICH PLAYERS ARE ELIGIBLE TO GET DRAFTED?
Every fall, 100+ players are signed by the league office and placed in the NBA G League Draft pool, including NBA and NBA G League vets, international pros and prospects, undrafted rookies and NBA G League National Tryout players. Players must be 18 years old to be eligible for the NBA G League Draft, as opposed to the NBA's age minimum of 19.
Â
Players are eligible to be selected in the 2019 NBA G League Draft if they signed a contract with the NBA G League by Oct. 21 (for players who weren't in NBA training camps) or Oct. 24 (for players who were in NBA training camps) and their rights are not held by an NBA G League team. Players who participated in NBA Training Camp and were designated as affiliate players are not draft-eligible. They are allocated directly to the NBA team's NBA G League affiliate.
Many of the top picks arrive days before the draft after either arriving from overseas or being waived by NBA teams.
