Walz Earns MAC East Defensive Player of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday afternoon (Oct. 28) the MAC Honors for volleyball for the past week of competition. Of those named, Bowling Green sophomore Julia Walz claimed the East Division recognition for MAC East Defensive Player of the Week. This comes after the Falcons completed an undefeated weekend, topping the rival Rockets on Friday, 3-1, before going five-sets in Muncie, Ind. for what would be a 3-2 victory over Ball State. This marks the third time this season Walz has been named, after she was also named following Week 4 (Sept. 23) and Week 6 (Oct. 7).Â

Walz led the Falcons in digs over both matches this past weekend. Totaling 24 digs on Friday and 30 on Saturday, Walz brings her season mark to 435, putting her just 63 away from entering the Top 10 all-time for single season digs. Nationally, Walz is currently ranked tenth for digs per set with an average of 5.51, which is also the second-highest mark in the MAC behind only Kent State's Erin Gardner. As a team, the Falcons are averaging 18 digs per set on the season, which ranks to be eighth in Division I Volleyball. Â
The Orange and Brown will return to action on Friday (Nov. 1) when they host Kent State with a scheduled 6 p.m. first serve. The match will be Fan Appreciation Night with tickets and concessions being $1 as well as being Trick or Treat at the Stroh Center from 5-6 p.m. The Falcons will return home on Saturday against Ohio for a BOGO special (bring your football ticket to the Stroh Center ticket office and receive free admission to volleyball) as well as Lace Up 4 Cancer. That match will begin at 5 p.m.Â
Next Home Match: Bowling Green will return to the Stroh Center on Nov. 1 to take on Kent State. Tickets for that match, and all BGSU home matches, can be purchased HERE.Â
